Greetings from the Vendee!
Heared my first cuckoo this morning too. THe mother in law will be pleased as she came earlier in the year and was thouroughly disgusted that "In France there are no birds..."
Maybe you should send the MIL to Lot next time. The blackbirds were shouting before sun (?) up this morning, there are finches, dunnocks, robins and tits in the trees and on the bird feeder, jays, hoopoes and magpies nesting everywhere and buzzards circling overhead.
We're certainly not missing any birds round here.
